About half of the capital's residents are affected by the crown: investigation

Dhaka: Antibody tests showed that 45 percent of people in the capital Dhaka were infected with the corona virus (Covid-19). This information has emerged in a study on the situation of corona infection and genetic mutation in the country.

The study was published on Monday afternoon (October 12) at a hotel in Gulshan, the capital.

The study was conducted jointly by the government’s Institute of Pathology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR) and the private International Center for Diarrhea Research, Bangladesh (ICDDRB). It is funded by USAID and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

Researchers and scientists from IEDDR and ICDDRB presented the results of the research at the event.

The Additional Director General (Planning and Development) of the Department of Health, Mirzadi Sebrina, chaired the function. Health Minister Zahid Malik joined the event online.

The study found that around three-quarters of the people in Dhaka’s slums are already infected. A blood test found that 45 percent of city dwellers who did not have corona symptoms were infected with corona. 24 percent of them are over 60 years old.

Common food samples were collected in Dhaka City for the study from mid-April to mid-July. Samples from slum dwellers are collected from mid-July to late August.

The researchers say this information will be useful for infection control, treatment and vaccination.
