The High Court has ordered the Electricity Supply Authority to cancel customers ‘excess electricity bills between February and June this year and create an integrated bill through the customers’ actual meter readings.
On Monday, the High Court approved the order after a virtual hearing on a writ petition filed by the Consumer Association of Bangladesh (CAB).
In addition, the High Court ordered the authorities to waive the additional bill and collect the late fee from the client and submit a separate report on compliance within two months.
President of Power Development Board (PDB) and Rural Electrification Board (REB) and Dhaka Power Development Corporation (DPDC), Dhaka Power Supply Corporation (DESCO), West Zone Power Distribution Corporation (WZPC) according to the July directives of the Control Commission Bangladesh Energy Agency (BERC). And the CEOs of North Zone Power Supply Corporation (NESC) have been instructed to prepare this integrated electric bill.
The High Court asked the concerned authorities to explain their reasons for violating the BERC directive under Article 43 of the Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission Act 2003.
At the end of the virtual hearing of the writ petition recently filed by the CAB for the necessary instructions on the phantom bill, Justice. Mojibur High Court Rahman Mia and Judge Mohiuddin Shamim approved the order.
During the hearing on the writ petition, the petitioner’s lawyer, Jyotirmoy Barua, told the High Court: However, no disciplinary action was taken against them.
