Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Morshed Al Mamun Bhuiyan granted them pre-trial detention on Monday.
Both were brought before the Dhaka Metropolitan Court of First Instance at noon and the investigating officer requested a seven-day pre-trial detention in the case. After the hearing, the judge granted a preventive detention of two days to each.
The student from the Department of Islamic Studies at Dhaka University filed the case with the Kotwali Police Station under the Digital Security Law on September 23 alleging abuse of women and children, kidnapping, rape and murder of characters through the social networks. He had filed a case at the Lalbagh Police Station two days ago for the same incident.
The fourth defendant in the case is Saiful and the fifth defendant is Nazmul. Daksh Nurul’s former vice president Haque Nur is also charged in the case.
The Dhaka University student was on a hunger strike alone at TSC’s Raju sculpture demanding the arrest of the rapists and their accomplices.
The student accused Nur’s two other colleagues, Hassan Al Mamun, coordinator of the Student Rights Council, and Nazmul Hossain Sohag, joint coordinator, of raping her. Although it has been almost three weeks since the case was filed, they are still out of police custody.
Meanwhile, the student fell ill while on a hunger strike at TSC’s Raju sculpture demanding the arrest of the accused.
Later on Sunday night, the Lalbagh Division of the Dhaka Metropolitan Detective Branch (DB) arrested Saiful and Nazmul, two defendants in the case.
In this regard, the detective police said: “Two defendants have been arrested on the basis of the initial truth of the accusation. The operation is underway to arrest the rest of the accused ”.
