Dhaka: Twelve BNP leaders have been expelled from the party for their role in the attack on the Uttara residence of BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.
ABMA Razzak, secretary of the Mahanagar Uttar BNP office, confirmed the information to banglanews on Monday (October 12) afternoon.
He said the leaders involved in the attack on the secretary-general’s house had been suspended from all posts, including its senior members, in accordance with article 5 (c) of the constitution for violating party discipline. They will be decided at a later time. The President-Senior Vice President and Acting Secretary General of Dhaka Metropolitan BNP is signing the expulsion order.
The expelled leaders are Vice President Ful Islam Dakshin Khan Thana BNP, members of the same Thana Nazim Uddin Dewan and Amjad Hossain. Aman Ullah, General Secretary of District 50 of Dakshin Khan Police Station, has been sent as organizing secretary of the same district. MA Hannan Milon, Uttara East Thana BNP Deputy Secretary, Taizul Islam Organization Secretary, Matiur Rahman Moti, Habibur Rahman Office Secretary, Expatriate Welfare Affairs Secretary Abdul Quader Swapan, Labor Affairs Secretary Harun Aur Rashid and Nur Mohammad , member of Uttar Khan Thana BNP.
On the afternoon of October 10, more than 100 leaders and activists gathered in front of the Uttara residence of BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir. He noticed the Secretary General’s house and threw bricks and eggs. They protested against the party nomination of Juba Dal leader, SM Jahangir, in the Dhaka-17 constituency.
The day before, on October 9, the party’s general secretary nominated HM Jahangir, Chairman of Mahanagar Uttar of Juba Dal, for the Dhaka-17 constituency at a press conference. 7 more party candidates awaited a nomination in that seat. All those who have been expelled are believed to be supporters of M. Kafil Uddin, Mahanagar Uttar BNP’s deputy secretary and candidate. However, Kafil Uddin himself told banglanews that he knew nothing about it.
Although party leaders were expelled in connection with the attack on the secretary-general’s home, Saturday’s standing committee meeting alleged that the government was assisting in the incident. At a press conference on Sunday, the party’s deputy general secretary, Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, also blamed the government for the attack. However, the matter came to light after the expulsion of the party leaders.
