At the end of the meeting, the cabinet secretary said that it was decided to complete the rape case in 180 days. In it, all investigative justice procedures are mentioned. The Women and Child Abuse Court will do this and must complete it within 180 days. If the judge is transferred for any reason, there is a long delay. However, if a judge withdraws, he must continue the case from the position where he will leave the case.
The cabinet secretary said there was also the issue of compensation, which the judges should look at. It has a law of 1 lakh rupees. But there are provisions for compensation beyond that. According to article 15, the person affected by the fine can be recovered from the convicted person or from their existing assets.
The Cabinet Secretary said that in view of recent events, the Draft Ordinance 2000 on the Prevention of Violence against Women and Children (Amendment) of the Ministry of Women and Children was submitted to Cabinet for approval. Child. It was proposed to amend Section 9 (1) of the Act. In order to prevent violence against women and rape, it was proposed to modify the penalty for rape to death or life imprisonment.
