The government is not concerned about the anti-rape movement

The anti-rape movement has spread across the country, including the capital Dhaka. Conscious people erupted in anger when the recent incident of torturing a woman in Noakhali’s Begumganj by stripping her went viral on social media. Protesters have held daily rallies and human network programs demanding maximum punishment for rapists.

There is some concern about this move, but the Awami League government is not concerned. The anti-rape movement is under strict surveillance by various government agencies. Apart from that, the government is also watching the move closely so that it does not take a different turn by making it an anti-government alliance issue. Furthermore, a reliable source said that government policy makers are constantly monitoring various aspects of the movement.

Government lawmakers believe that rape is a social disorder. The movement to eradicate this disorder and demand justice for the perpetrators has always been and continues to be. This is nothing new. However, in the case of Begumganj, the level of movement has increased a bit. The government has been in a difficult position with the perpetrators since the incident came to light. Several have already been arrested. Even then, the anti-government alliance wants to take advantage to make it a problem. They are demanding the downfall of the government adding color to the anti-rape movement.

Also before, BNP wanted to overthrow the government relying on the anti-quota movement. But their hopes were dashed. The movement was repressed by reforming the employment quotas. There is a movement against rape. The government is working on their demands.

The amended law may emerge today in cabinet to amend the law by keeping the provision of the death penalty as the maximum punishment for the violator. The amended law will be discussed in detail. If this law is passed, the anti-rape movement will also die on the ground. Especially those who want to turn the government into a downfall movement by relying on the anti-rape movement.

In this context, one of the members of the Awami League presidium. Colonel (retired) Farooq Khan told Naya Digant that rape, violence against women, is a social disorder. This is a heinous crime. In our country there is lack of conscience, lack of social education, delay of the law. The anti-rape movement has existed in the past, it still is, it is all the time. But now a little more is happening. I think we should find a solution to rape without politics.

“Some people want to get political profit, but there is nothing like get political profit,” he said. We must build a social movement against rape, so that our children are saved, society is saved. He says the Awami League and the government see it as a crime. Rapists will never be able to cross. The government of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is in a difficult position.

“As far as I know, the punishment for rapists is getting stricter,” Farooq Khan said. The amended law will be discussed in cabinet tomorrow.

Deputy Secretary General of the Awami League and Minister of Information. Hasan Mahmud said the government is determined to punish those responsible for the unfortunate incidents that have taken place in the country, especially the abuse of women and children. Swift action has been taken against them, arrests have been made and legal action has been taken.

He said that the protests taking place in this regard are normal and it is easy for the government to take action if there is any protest. But those who want to resign from the government or comment on the Prime Minister must understand that their purpose is not to punish the perpetrators of violence against women and children, but to serve their own interests behind the issue and divert the issue. The government distrusts this.

The Information Minister said that BNP is trying to politicize the incident of violence against women. It is not right for politics to misbehave with incidents of violence against women. Rapists do not belong to any group. Those involved in the Noakhali incident do not belong to any party, they are all criminals. Each case is being tried and the government is determined to give an exemplary punishment.

In this context, said the organization secretary of the Awami League, SM Kamal Hossain, the government is in a strict position regarding the punishment of rapists. You see, wherever such incidents take place, immediate action is being taken. The church father said the temple priest said and the party leader said that no one could commit a crime.

He said the Awami League expressed solidarity with those who protest rape and demand the death penalty for rapists. However, the most regrettable thing is that some people in the anti-rape movement are criticizing the popular leader Sheikh Hasina, demanding the resignation of the government. From this it is understood that the demands of those who want the resignation of the government are the same as those of the BNP. The BNP wants to gain political advantage through this. But it will not meet expectations. The government is cautious.

SM Kamal Hossain said that work is underway to amend the law that maintains the provision of maximum punishment for violators. The law will be approved soon. Even then, if someone makes a move, I will understand that they don’t want to punish rapists, they want to gain interest behind the anti-rape movement. I urge the BNP to avoid this conspiracy and engage in peaceful politics.
