Azerbaijan has shot down an Armenian spy drone. The Azerbaijani Defense Ministry says an Armenian drone was spying on a military base in Azerbaijan on Sunday morning.

The Air Force was activated as soon as it sensed the presence of the drone. Then the drone was shot down by a fighter jet. Azerbaijan has accused Armenia of using drones to conduct intelligence operations during the ceasefire.

Meanwhile, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev has denied allegations against Armenia of using banned cluster munitions. He said the accusations were unfounded after Amnesty International accused Armenia of using Israeli-made cluster munitions.

“We have used fighter jets, tanks and drones,” Aliyev said. Why use a bunch of bombs?

The two sides met for peace talks on Friday night, mediated by Russia, after deadly military clashes between Azerbaijan and Armenia for the past two weeks, and a ceasefire went into effect starting at 12 noon local time on Saturday.

More than 400 people died and many more were injured in the clashes. The ceasefire was established with the aim of rescuing corpses and exchanging prisoners from areas devastated by war. However, no information was available on how long the ceasefire would last.
