The company has been fined Rs 1 million for the presence of toxic methanol in ACI’s hand sanitizer. In addition, a mobile RAB court ordered the withdrawal of the methanol-mixed hand sanitizer from the market within the next 48 hours.

RAB Executive Magistrate Sarwar Alam confirmed this information to the Bangla Tribune on Sunday evening (October 11).

He said, “ACI has been fined Rs 1 crore for making methanol hand sanitizer. In addition, three batches of methanol hand sanitizers were ordered recalled within 48 hours.

Earlier, a raid was carried out at the company’s factory in Gazipur from noon to the night of October 4. Later, the RAB sealed the factory. A fine of 1 million rupees was imposed on Sunday night for testing and finding toxic methanol.

According to the RAB, ACI’s Savlon hand sanitizer was tested in multiple laboratories and found to contain toxic methanol, which is not supposed to be present in hand sanitizers.

Meanwhile, Savlon’s disinfectant was labeled “isopropyl alcohol” but did not contain isopropyl alcohol. In particular, the hand sanitizer used by people as a disinfectant is far from sterile, as it causes various harm to the human body. The use of methanol is also officially banned in the country. But the RAB raided the ACI factory with news that hand sanitizers were made from toxic methanol.
