Criticizing Turkey’s military presence in Qatar, the United Arab Emirates said that the Turkish base has caused instability in the Middle East.
UAE Foreign Minister Anwar Gargash made the remarks in a post on his Twitter account on Saturday.
He said that Turkey’s military presence in the Persian Gulf was like a state of emergency. He also said that Turkey has intensified its polarization and has not taken into account the independence, sovereignty and interests of the peoples of the region.
Turkey has become a major supporter of Qatar since the imposition of sanctions on Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Egypt and Bahrain in June 2016. Since then, Turkey has been supporting Qatar from all sides and has been deploying troops in the country.
Meanwhile, Saudi businessman Prince Abdur Rahman bin Mus’ad has called for a boycott of imports of any kind from Turkey.
The Saudi prince called for a boycott of Turkish products after Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan commented that Turkish troops deployed in Qatar were helping to stabilize the Persian Gulf region.
