Chittagong: The country’s first hydraulic elevator dam has been built on the Bharashankha canal in Chittagong’s Anwara upazila. The Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC) has built a dam under the Rubber Dam Construction Project to use surface water to increase agricultural production.
The construction of this hydraulic elevator dam with modern technology will allow the conservation of fresh water coming from upstream of the Shikalbaha canal and the protection of crops by avoiding the intrusion of saline water from the sea downstream. Due to this, the irrigation facilities of 3000 hectares of land in Barumchara, Barkhain, Haildar and Battali Union of Anwar have been expanded. It will produce more than 13 thousand metric tons of rice.
