Lalmonirhat: A 15-year-old girl was gang-raped in Kaliganj upazila of Lalmonirhat and the police arrested Mulhota Rocky in the case.
Farhad Hossain, Police Officer in Charge of Kaliganj (OC, Investigation), confirmed the case and the arrest to banglanews on Saturday (October 10) afternoon.
Earlier on Friday (October 9), police arrested Rocky, the main defendant in a gang rape case, from the Baninagar area of upazila.
Arrested Rocky is the son of Rajab Ali from the Baninagar area of the Tusbhandar union of the same upazila. He is a battery powered autorickshaw driver by profession.
According to the details of the case, on October 5, a 15-year-old girl came from her uncle’s home in the Kaunia area of Rangpur to visit her aunt’s home in Lalmonirhat’s Patgram with her father. From there, the next day, on the night of October 7, he took the Karatoya Express intercity train bound for Lalmonirhat to Kaunia. When the train stopped at Kakina Station in Kaliganj, the girl went down for breakfast. At that time, a young woman named Rocky (22) wanted to know where he was going. Then the girl informed him that she was going to Kaunia. Rockio identifies himself as a resident of Kaunya. Meanwhile, after leaving the train station, Rocky will go to Kaunia in an autorickshaw and promises to take the girl home in that autorickshaw. As promised, Rocky drove the girl in an auto rickshaw to a secluded house next to a sprinkler pump in the middle of the night. There, Rocky and his three friends gang-raped the girl. The next day, on the morning of October 8, the four young men released the girl on the condition that they did not open their mouths. Later, when the locals interrogated her on the way to forget the path of the sick teenager, the girl told them. Then the girl took refuge in the house of a village policeman with the help of the locals. On the night of October 6, the local matabbars sat in a meeting and identified the rapists and charged a large fine. However, the teenager complained that the Matabbars kept the money in their own pockets without giving it to her.
The girl also alleged that instead of paying the fine to the girl, the matabbars threatened her and sent her 2,000 rupees. Later, on October 9, at noon, the teenager took refuge in the Kaliganj Press Club through the locals. Reporters told police after hearing the shocking description of the incident in the press club. Soon after, the Kaliganj police rescued the girl and took her into their custody. After conducting a preliminary investigation based on the information provided by the girl, Mulhota Rocky was arrested on Friday night.
Based on the information provided by Rocky, the girl became a plaintiff and the police took a case against seven rapists, 10 members, including UP members, and four / five others as unidentified defendants. Rocky was arrested in the case and sent to court on Saturday afternoon. Kaliganj (SI) Police Station Deputy Inspector Mohidul Islam confirmed that the girl was also sent to Lalmonirhat Sadar Hospital for a medical examination.
Kaliganj OC Police Station, Farhad Hossain said that Major Hota Rocky has been arrested in the case brought by the victim. The arrested Rocky pleaded guilty to police rape during preliminary questioning.
Lalmonirhat Additional Police Superintendent Rabiul Islam told banglanews that a case has been registered against seven rapists, Matabbar, UP members and 10 others. He also urged not to reveal the names of all defendants in the name of investigation.
