Former vice president of the Dhaka University (Daksu) Central Student Union, Nurul Haque Nur, and his associates were given 72 hours to be arrested in a case of rape and complicity in rape.

Sonnet Mahbub, president of the Dhaka University branch of Muktijuddha Mancha, gave the ultimatum at a protest rally at the foot of the Raju sculpture in DU on Saturday.

With a 72-hour ultimatum to arrest Nur and his accomplice Mamun, Sonnet Mahbub said there would be a crackdown if they were not arrested within the next 72 hours. Sonnet also alleged that attempts were being made to color political rape cases across the country.

Although the defendants have been arrested in rape cases across the country, the leaders of a section of Muktijuddha Mancha have asked the government why Vice President Noor and his associates are not being arrested.

The DU student who brought the case against Nur is on a hunger strike with a part of Muktijuddha Manj. Part of Muktijuddha Mancha organized a march and rally on the DU campus on Saturday in support of the student demand.

It is worth mentioning that the DU student has been on a hunger strike at the foot of the Raju sculpture since last Thursday night. Expressing solidarity with him, at least 20 leaders and activists of the Chhatra League took a position there. In addition, some leaders and activists from the Dhaka University student union have also expressed their solidarity with the student.
