One rape after another rages across the country. Students and people have been protesting the rape in Shahbagh in the capital for the past few days. The nine-point demand has been raised since the general assembly organized by the platform of left-wing student organizations ‘Bangladesh Against Rape’ held in Shahbagh on Friday afternoon. They announced to continue the movement until the demand is met. Furthermore, various shows were also announced until October 16.

Claim (is:
1. We need to ensure exemplary punishment for those involved in ongoing rape and violence against women across the country. The interior minister who failed to stop the rape and harassment and failed his trial must be removed immediately.

2. All forms of sexual and social military and civil oppression of indigenous women in the hills and plains must be stopped.

3. According to the instructions of the Superior Court, the cell against violence against women must be implemented in all governmental and non-governmental institutions, including educational institutions. Bangladesh must sign and fully implement the Sido Charter. All laws and practices that discriminate against women must be abolished.

4. Rhetoric against women in all types of gatherings, including religious ones, should be considered a punishable offense. Literature, dramas, movies, advertisements should stop presenting women as products. BTCL must play an effective role in controlling pornography. Healthy cultural practices must be officially sponsored.

5. During the investigation, the victim must stop the mental harassment. The legal and social security of the victim must be guaranteed.

. Experts in criminology and gender should be included in the Court for the Suppression of Abuse of Women and Children. All pending cases must be resolved quickly by increasing the number of courts.

. Sections 162-155 (4) of the Rape Evidence Act should be repealed and the DNA Act of the case shall apply in evidence.

. Textbooks should avoid any article, essay, paragraph, image, instruction, and word choice that is derogatory and discriminatory towards women.

9. Attempts to cover up reports of rape through rural arbitration should be treated as a punishable offense.

After Nasir Uddin Prince, general secretary of the Socialist Student Front, raised these nine-point demands, Anik Roy, general secretary of the student union, announced the program until October 18. He said that every day from 4 pm to 8 pm there will be continuous post on Shahbag. Programs include: Photo Show on Sunday, October 11, Cultural Rally on October 12, Film Festival Against Rape on October 13, Women’s Rally on October 14 and Bicycle Rally Against Rape in the City from Dhaka on October 15. There will be a long march from Noakhali to Begumganj and a rally there the next day.
