A housewife has been gang-raped in the Chandgaon area of the Chittagong metropolis. The incident occurred after 11:30 pm on Thursday. Police arrested eight people accused of being involved in the incident.
The detainees are Jahangir Alam, the driver of the CNG autorickshaw. Yusuf, Md. Shahed, Md. Ripon, Sujan, Debu Barua, Rintu Dutt, and their associates Monowara Begum. Most of those arrested were autorickshaw drivers, police said.
Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) North Division Deputy Commissioner Vijay Basak told a press conference here on Friday afternoon that an operation was underway to arrest several other people involved in the incident. .
According to the police, the house of the housewife’s village is in Rangunia upazila. He hopped on a GNC autorickshaw from there Thursday night and arrived at the GNC stand at the beginning of Kaptai Road, below the Chandgaon police station. It was around 11:30 pm. Then the housewife took a rickshaw to the Moulvipukurpar area of Chandgaon. Along the way, some people, including the GNC driver, got her off the rickshaw and raped her next to a building. The criminals left her there late at night after the rape. Then some people noticed him and took him to Chittagong Medical College Hospital. The housewife is currently being treated at the hospital’s One Stop Crisis Center. Police learned of the organized rape this morning. They then launched an operation to arrest the culprits.
Deputy Commissioner Vijay Basak said eight people have been arrested from different places, including the Chandgaon area, after the housewife’s complaint.
