A leader of the Awami League has been arrested for raping a schoolgirl (12) at the Sonagazi upazila in Feni. He was arrested in the Vadadia area of upazila on Thursday night.
The person arrested is Tamiz Uddin (50). He is the president of the Awami League, District 7 of the Matiganj Union of the Upazila.
Police sources and relatives said that the girl was in the seventh grade of a school in the upazila. His father works in the furniture store of Tamiz Uddin. On October 1, while the girl was going to study in private, Tamiz Uddin called her, took her inside the store and raped her. He also threatened to kill her and her father if she told anyone about the incident. Tamiz’s wife saw the incident and quickly drove the student away. If there is an argument between Sieve and his wife about this, the people around may know about it too.
The schoolgirl’s mother claimed that Tamiz Uddin called her daughter inside the store and raped her. Although his daughter went home and informed him about the matter, they did not dare to present a case for so long for fear of Tamiz Uddin. He went to the police station on Thursday night with the help of the locals and filed a case.
When asked about this, Mahfuz Alam Miaji, general secretary of the Awami League of the Matiganj Union, said that although Tamiz Uddin himself claimed to be the president of the 6th district, there is no approved committee of the Bangladesh Awami League in that district.
Sonagazi Model Police Inspector (Investigation) said. Abdur Rahim Sarkar said the police arrested the defendant Tamiz Uddin on Thursday night. During preliminary interrogation, Tamiz Uddin confessed to raping the girl.
The girl will be taken to the Feni High Magistrates Court after a physical examination at the 250-bed General Hospital in Feni on Friday, police said. At the same time, the defendant Tamiz Uddin will also appear in the Feni court.
