A Chinese citizen was stabbed to death in Pirojpur. The deceased was identified as Lao Fan, 58. Police arrested a man named Siraj Sheikh (30) in the incident. Initially, concerned people think the matter is a theft incident.

Lao Fan was stabbed in the area of ​​the Bekutia bridge under construction in the village of Kumirmara in Sadar upazila on Wednesday night. He died after being taken to Sadar Hospital.

Siraj was arrested in the Kumarkhali area of ​​Pirojpur Township around 2 am on Wednesday.

To confirm the matter, Deputy Inspector (SI) of Pirojpur District Police (DB) Detective Branch Delwar Hossain said that Siraj Sheikh was arrested in the garden of a house in the Kumarkhali area of ​​Pirojpur Municipality during a night raid. A local woman saw Siraj Sheikh stab Lao Fan.

Lao Fan was a subcontractor and technician for China Railway 18 Bureau Group Limited, the contractor for the eighth Bangladesh-China Friendship Bridge under construction on the Kacha River in Pirojpur.

The arrested Siraj Sheikh is a resident of the Guabaria village at the Sharikatala Dumuritala junction of Pirojpur Sadar upazila.

Lao Fan lived in a barracks created for Chinese workers in the village of Kumirmara in Pirojpur Sadar upazila. At around 7:30 pm on Wednesday, Lao Fan was riding his bicycle from the barracks to the bridge under construction on the workers’ monthly salary. At that moment, an unidentified malefactor stabbed Lao Fan in the right side of his chest and took the money from him. The locals rescued Lao Fan and took him to Pirojpur Sadar Hospital. He died shortly after being transferred to the hospital. Upon receiving the news, the police recovered the body and took it to the local police station.
