The monument erected in the morning in memory of Abrar Fahad, a former student of the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), was demolished by an excavator that same night. This memorial pillar was built at the initiative of the Student Rights Council.

Bangladeshi leaders and activists Chhatra Odhikar Parishad, led by Akhtar Hossain, former Daksh secretary for social services, began construction of an Abrar Fahad memorial at the BUET Palashi intersection around 12:30 pm on Tuesday and it was completed on Wednesday morning.

The pillar was called “Eight Pillars Against Aggression”. On the plaque of the monument is written ‘My journey in eternity, at the end of infinite space’. However, a bulldozer demolished the monument in the presence of police on Wednesday night.

Regarding the demolition of the monument, Chawkbazar Police Station OC Moudut Hawladar told Jugantar: “I don’t know if the police broke it.”

Akhter Hossain told reporters that it is not possible for a patriot to break it. We urge those who have broken it to rebuild it.
