Shahbagh continues to protest rape

Left-wing student organizations and Bangladeshi activists Chhatra Odhikar Parishad are protesting together with ordinary students in the capital’s Shahbagh against organized rape in Noakhali and the rape and oppression of women across the country.

They say that the perpetrators of rapes and torture are helped. In this way, the culprits cause such incidents over and over again. If the violation is brought to justice quickly, these incidents will not be repeated over and over again.

A student platform called ‘Save Our Women’ has been protesting in front of the National Museum since 10:30 am on Wednesday. Activists from the left-wing organization have been protesting in the same place since 12 noon.

Sanjida Khan, president of the Facebook-based platform ‘Save Our Women’, said: ‘We want to be able to return home safely every day. We want to continue as independent citizens of an independent country. The state must ensure that I am not raped on the streets.

In front of the National Museum, activists from the left-wing organization also staged a massive procession and a black-flag procession with the banner ‘Bangladesh against the rapist’.

At today’s protest, protesters chanted ‘Break the hand of the oppressor’, ‘Break the rapist’s bedroom, tear him down’, ‘My soil will not be my mother, rapists’, ‘In my golden Bengal, rapists have no place’ , ‘State rapist’ They are protesting under the slogans of ‘Destroy that state’, ‘Factory of rapists, tear it down, demolish it’, ‘Mountains or plains, the fight will be the same’. They also demanded the resignation of the Interior Minister from public office.

The Bangladesh Student Rights Council is holding a protest rally in Shahbag starting at 12:15 pm. Later, they marched in a black flag procession along with the Interior Ministry led by Nurul Haque Nur, former vice president of the Central Union of Students of Dhaka University (Daksu).

Police blocked them with a barricade near Gulistan Zeropoint at around 1:15 pm when they tried to march towards the Interior Ministry from Shahbagh demanding the resignation of the Interior Minister. At that time, some 200 leaders and activists from the Bangladesh Youth and Student Rights Council took positions there.

Later, a rally was called in Shahbagh at 4pm on Friday and his position at Zeropoint was declared terminated.
