The bodies of three Bangladeshis killed in BSF shooting are floating in the Mahananda river in Bholahat in Chapainawabganj. Locals said the three Bangladeshis were killed in the BSF shooting on the night of October 1.

Since then, fishing has stopped in the Mahananda River on the Bajratek Alisahaspur border in Bholahat.

According to locals, a group of 7-8 smugglers crossed the Bajratek Alisahaspur border into Bholahat around 3:30 pm on Thursday to bring cows to the Sukhnagar border in India. At that time, members of the Sukhnagar BSF camp of the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) opened fire on them. Some of them swam away from the river, but they shot 3-4 people. Since then, the Bangladesh Border Security Force (BGB) has banned fishermen from fishing in the river.

On Sunday afternoon, the BGB gave the fishermen an hour to collect the nets. While collecting the nets, the fishermen saw two bodies tied together in the water at two locations near the International Border Pillars (41 and 42) on the Mahananda River and the other body floating. At this time, the terrified fishermen quickly returned.

Local fishermen Sanaul Haque, Amin Ali, Mohan Ali said: “We heard the sound of two gunshots on Thursday night. Then from Friday morning, members of the local camp JK Poladanga BGB did not allow us to fish in the river. Last Sunday he allowed us to collect the nets in an hour.

Fisherman Abdul Jalil told Jugantar that he saw a body floating at the end of the river as he searched for the net.

Fisherman Sadiqul Islam said he saw two bodies tied up near an eggplant field at the end of the river. Then I quickly left the area in fear.

Meanwhile, some smugglers from Bholahat are reported missing. Among the missing are Mizanur Rahman Injil, 35, son of Sajed Ali from Namopanchtikari village, and Nuru Mohammad alias Nuruddin, 28, son of Durul Hoda from the same area. Mizanur Rahman Injil and his family are in hiding. Nuruddin left the house on Thursday night without informing anyone about Nuruddin’s family’s demands.

Durul Hoda, the father of the missing Nuru Mohammad alias Nuruddin, and his brother Delwar Hossain told Jugantar that they learned from a local vigilante Thursday night that Nuruddin had been shot and killed by BSF. Since then I have been walking around different places but until now I have not found anything. Now that he’s gone, if he could get the body back, he’d get peace if he could bury the shroud. However, they were unable to provide any information on why they went to the Indian border.

Habibur Rahman, a member of the Bholahat Union Parishad, said: “I went to the BGB camp with the father of the missing Nuruddin after hearing about the dismissal of BSF.” The BGB claimed to investigate the matter after reporting the missing persons there.

In this regard, the Commander of the Chapainawabganj-59 Border Guard Battalion, Lt. Colonel Mahmudul Hasan said that the rescue operation on the Mahananda River has continued since the incident was reported. I have spoken with the Indian Border Security Force (BSF). They said they were unaware of such an incident.

“We have continued our activities since we received the complaint,” he said. For security reasons, we stopped fishing in the Mahananda River at the Bajratek Alisahaspur border.
