Opposition groups in Kyrgyzstan, a Central Asian country, have seized government buildings during protests over parliamentary elections. The electoral authorities also canceled the election results after violent protests.

On Tuesday, some 2,000 protesters stormed the National Security Committee building. They released the convicted former president Almazbek Atabayev.

Kyrgyz President Suronbai Zinbekov says the country is facing an attempted coup. However, he ordered the security forces not to open fire on the protesters.

In a video message, Zinbekov said that an unknown political force was using the election results as a violation of discipline; They are reckless.

So far, President Jinbekov has said that he has taken all possible measures to prevent the situation from spiraling out of control. He also called on the opposition to calm down and withdraw its supporters from the protest.

“I urge the Election Commission of Canada to fully investigate the violence and, if necessary, cancel the results,” Zinbekov said.

One person was killed and 590 injured in clashes overnight, Reuters reported, citing government sources. It is also reported that the former president, who was arrested on corruption charges, was released from jail.
