The Secretary General of the Awami League and Minister of Road Transport and Bridges, Obaidul Quader, has called on everyone, regardless of party affiliation, to come together and create a social resistance against social evils such as rape.
Mentioning that the government is taking action in all rape cases, the Awami League general secretary said: ‘The government is in power, how can it avoid responsibility? The government is not allowing itself these matters. The government is taking action on all matters. Even if there is someone with a party identity, they have to be subject to the law. ‘
He said: ‘The government is punishing the perpetrators of rapes. However, a social resistance against such crimes must be built. Everyone must come together and build resistance on these issues. I urge everyone to join.
Quader was responding to a question from reporters after a development activities review meeting with officials from the Department of Highway and Highway Transportation and the department head at the Secretariat on Monday.
“Recently, there have been reports of rape and violence against women in different parts of the country,” she said. Rape is undoubtedly a heinous crime and a social disorder. Those involved in these heinous acts are guilty of perverted tastes. The government is punishing those involved in such crimes according to the law. However, these incidents are happening somewhere in the country. Recently, these incidents have also escalated in neighboring countries. ‘
Calling on everyone to cooperate to bring perpetrators to law, he said there is no need to politicize all issues. On this issue, cultural and voluntary organizations, including political parties, must unite and build a social resistance.
Obaidul Quader said the name of the government-backed student organization comes with the violation. No one can shirk their responsibility. Government in power, how will the government avoid responsibility? The government is not allowing it at all. The government takes responsibility in all matters. According to the Prime Minister’s directive, if any of those involved in these incidents have the identity of our party, they should be subject to the law and punished. That is not only said orally, it is also being implemented in practice.
He said the verdict in the Rifat murder case was passed, the verdict in the Nusrat incident in Feni. These are being judged. There will be punishment in all matters. Wahidar has been attacked and action is being taken against him. The names of the party’s identities were also heard, but no one was spared. In the murder of Abrar Fahad, almost everyone had the identity of the Chhatra League. But have they escaped punishment? Or have they been excluded from the charge sheet?
The Minister of Road Transport and Bridges called for the withdrawal of the strike called by the Co-ordinating Council of Workers and Owners of Covered Trucks of Bangladesh in the interest of the country and the economy.
He said he had recently heard that a section of transportation owners, especially the Truck and Trailer Truck Owners Association, had called for a two-day strike. If there is any demand from the homeowners association, we can resolve it through discussion. Many problems have been solved through discussions in the past. I already spoke to the Interior Minister about the matter, he also agreed to sit down. Any claim will be discussed.
The bridge minister said that during the Crown period the suffering of the people and the transportation of the country’s goods were not expected to be taken hostage. Therefore, I urge the Truck and Covered Van Owners Association to withdraw its decision to go on strike in the interest of the country and the economy, especially in the Chittagong region. You sit down to discuss, if there is something logical, sit down with the Minister of the Interior and find a way to solve the problem.
