Dhaka: The Minister of Road Transport and Bridges, Obaidul Quader, has said that the World Bank’s proposal to expand the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project to Sadarghat has been rejected.
He said elevated expressways are being built within the city.
Therefore, it has been decided not to create new suffering for people.
He told reporters after a development activities review meeting with the heads of the Department of Road Transport in the conference room of the Ministry of Road Transport in the Secretariat on Monday (October 5).
Obaidul Quader said, BRT will go up to Hazrat Shahjalal Airport. The World Bank has a proposal to bring it to Sadarghat, Mohakhali for now. But I have declined this offer. Because we can’t handle this BRT push. And this project is no longer necessary in the city center. We have six subway lanes, elevated highways in Dhaka. I have personally told the World Bank Country Director that the new BRT project here means that people’s suffering will be taken to the extreme for a few years.
A Chinese contractor is working on the construction of the country’s first bus rapid transit (BRT) on the Gazipur route from the airport to ease traffic congestion in Dhaka. China’s Gazhuba Group is constructing 16 km BRT lanes, 32 km trails and separate slow vehicle lanes for the 20.50 km long project at a cost of Tk 655.36 crore.
>>> The wrath of Obaidul Quader has not ended in half a century
Quader said the issue of streamlining bus routes is very important. You just have to be more discriminatory with the help you give other people. I also receive accusations that some department heads do not want to give importance to the DTCA. In each case, I have taken advantage of it, despite obstacles we can hardly imagine. ”No one is above the law.
The residents of Gazipur, the passengers traveling to North Bengal and the greater Mymensingh have been suffering year after year. The suffering there is extreme. The part under the Bangladesh Bridges Authority (BBA) is also in poor condition. I think we should think differently about this road. If BBA is not possible, it is necessary to consider whether the road can be repaired, people can no longer be disturbed. ‘
Referring to Safe Roads Day on October 22, the Minister of Road Transport said: “We have to make road safety visible.” What is the benefit of celebrating all these days. In our country, official days pass we hardly have to celebrate days and weeks, but nothing happens.
Installing signs and road markings on all highways in the country before October 22 of this year could be a visible task, he said. If we don’t have any creative initiative, speaking big is of no benefit. We need to understand what people want.
Quader said, what can I say about BRTA! All acquisitions are questionable due to a driver’s license. Hundreds of requests every day, I would tell the president to collect the cards quickly. Give a little at first. Clean build-up. I need to do extra work. I told the president again to take the helm with a firm hand. The Prime Minister wants this organization to be a service organization in the true sense. BRTA to avoid harassment.
‘There have been new buildings on roads and highways. The Dhaka Transportation Coordinating Authority (DTCA) building is operational, the BRTA has ended. BRTC needs its own building. I feel like this. But the officers don’t understand how much Phil knows.
He said that no DTCA work is seen, adding that the feasibility study and survey cycle is rotating. I don’t think the company can enforce the powers of attorney.
He said that there are road locations in many places in Dhaka city, so it is necessary to build building after building. Road offices throughout the city. The more projects, the more buildings. I say to the planning branch, no more unreasonable construction projects. Reserve two floors or one block of the highway building for the project. The project office will be on that block.
