Two cases have been filed at the Begumganj Police Station against nine people for torturing a naked woman in Joykrishnapur village of Eklashpur Union in Begumganj Upazila of Noakhali. The victim filed a case under the Women and Children Abuse Prevention Act and the Pornography Control Act around 12 p.m. on Sunday (October 4).
The defendants in the case are: Badal (22), Md. Rahim (20), Abul Kalam (22), Israfil Hossain (22), Saju (21), Samsuddin alias Sumon (39), Abdur Rob alias Chowdhury Mia (48), Arif (18) and Rahmat Ullah (41). 6-7 defendants have been made more anonymous.
So far, 4 people have been arrested in the incident, the district police superintendent said. Alamgir Hossain. He said the police in the area, the son of Sheikh Ahmed Dulal, Abdur Rahim, and the son of the late Abdur Rahim. Badal, son of Sahab Uddin from Madhyam Eklashpur village, the main defendant in the Rahmat Ullah and RAB case, was arrested in Dhaka and Delwar in Narayanganj with weapons. But Delwar was not charged in the case. However, the involvement of Delwar, the head of Delwar’s forces, in the incident was widely reported on social media. As a result, as his name was not on the list of defendants, there was a storm of discussion and criticism on social media and in various quarters.
When the matter was brought to the attention of the district police superintendent, he said: ‘The victim could not be charged in the case because he did not mention Delwar’s name. However, multiple sources said that Delwar was the main instigator of the incident. He established a reign of terror in the area by discrediting the ruling party.

In the case brief, the victim mentioned that after a long time on September 2, her husband went to her father’s house to receive her. The husband and wife stayed in the bedroom around 9pm. At that moment, the defendant broke the door and entered the house, beat her husband and tied him up in the next room. At one point, the defendant tried to rape her by stripping her naked, and the defendant brutally tortured her and recorded videos on her mobile phone. During the torture, people in the area yelled at him and the accused threatened to kill him if he did not tell anyone. After torturing her and leaving, she took refuge in one of her sister’s houses in the Maijdi housing estate in the district town without telling anyone out of fear. While there, the defendants threatened to spread the pornographic video on social media if they did not accept their proposal on their mobile phones. At one point, the video was released via social media on Sunday afternoon. The police then rescued the victim from her sister’s home. She filed a case at the police station at night.
The victim’s father said: “Those involved in the incident were influential and did not dare to bring a case against them for fear to this day.” He demanded a fair trial for the incident.
Meanwhile, the Women’s Rights Alliance, all Noakhali residents, students and youth rights councils, Friends Group, One Star for Laughter, Young Star Social Organization, Blood Hunder Group and Blood Forum, Socialist Party have been protesting against this heinous incident in different parts of the district from the morning. Various organizations carried out various programs in front of the Deputy Commissioner’s Office, Noakhali Press Club, on the premises of the City Council and on the main road demanding exemplary punishment for the guilty.
