In Laxmipur, Maryam Begum, the wife of a Saudi expatriate, and her eight-year-old daughter, Sadia Akhter, were hacked to death and mutilated. The Officer-in-Charge (CO) of the Chandraganj police station, Jasim Uddin, said that Zahid was detained for questioning after the incident. He admitted to harassing his mother and daughter over a land dispute. He was arrested in the case and sent to court to give a confessional statement. However, he didn’t open his mouth to find out if someone else was involved with him.

According to police and local sources, Maryam and her daughter Sadia were randomly stabbed with a sharp weapon after entering the home of expat Nabi Ullah in Balaishpur village in Bashikpur Sadar upazila union around 9pm on Saturday. Maryam’s right wrist and four fingers on her left hand were cut off and various parts of her body, including her head, were injured. The Sadia girl suffered serious head and neck injuries. They were first taken to Laxmipur Sadar Hospital. Later, when her condition deteriorated, Maryam was admitted to Dhaka Cripple Hospital and Sadia to Dhaka Neurology Surgeon’s Hospital. Doctors said her condition was critical.
