A group of young people have tortured a housewife by defameing her in the dead of night in Begumganj of Noakhali. They recorded a video of the incident at the time.
The incident took place on the night of 2 September in the Bara Khalpar area of Joykrishnapur village in the 9th district of the Eklashpur union of the upazila. The housewife and her family members are currently in hiding.
A month and two days after the incident, the video of the torture was released on social media on Sunday afternoon.
The Delwar local force chief, Delwar and his second in command, Badal, and 5-6 people, including activists Rahim and Sumon, have been charged with torture. Police arrested a man named Abdur Rahim (22) on suspicion of being involved in the incident.
Several people from the Anantapur and Jayakrishnapur villages of Eklashpur Union, who did not want to be identified, said that the housewife was married three years ago. The husband left her and remarried elsewhere. Her husband had no contact with her for a long time. On the night of September 2, the husband entered the house of the housewife. Delwar, the head of the local drug trafficking force, saw the incident and entered the house with his men around 10 at night, slandering the housewife and beating her. At one point, he beat up the housewife, undressed her, and recorded a video of her.
After watching the video, many people condemned the incident on social media and demanded exemplary punishment for the perpetrators.
The housewife went to the house and was seen closing her house. No statement was received from any of her relatives.
Local UP president candidate Saidur Rahman Dipu said: “This incident was caused by the Delwar drug trafficking forces.”
He demanded the arrest of the Delwar perpetrators and his forces, saying “such incidents cannot occur in any civilized society.”
Moazzem Hossain Sohag, a member of Eklashpur local union 9th district, said: ‘The housewife came to see me after the incident. However, he did not say who tortured him. The housewife and his family have not lived in the house since the incident.
Begumganj Model Police Officer-in-Charge (CO) Harunur Rashid Chowdhury admitted the truth of the incident. His name is Abdur Rahim. He is the son of Sheikh Ahmed Dulal from Jayakrishnapur village. During preliminary questioning by the police, Abdur Rahim admitted his involvement in the incident.
Noakhali Super Md. Police Alamgir Hossain said: ‘One of the people involved in this incident has been arrested. They are trying to stop the rest. No matter how powerful those involved in this incident are, they will be subjected to the law and receive exemplary punishment.
