This information has been revealed from the working document of the meeting of the parliamentary commission of the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism on Sunday.
This was discussed at the committee meeting last month.
The meeting reported that the revenue raised from the operation of these two aircraft amounted to Taka 22 billion and the cost of both was Taka 33 billion.
Biman came with a subsidy of Tk 11 crore per month for those two planes. The aircraft is exempt from this responsibility since last March.
At the meeting, Mahibul Haque, chief secretary of the Aviation Ministry, said the airline wanted to get out of the leasing culture. This year 3 new Dash-8 aircraft were to arrive. Two of them will be added to the fleet this year, with one expected to be added to the fleet next January. The planes were bought for £ 24 million.
At the meeting, committee member Syeda Rubina Akhter said the aircraft leasing process was unclear to her. She said the matter should be discussed in a parliamentary committee during the process.
A parliamentary commission of the aviation ministry of the 10th parliament had opposed the leasing of the two planes.
The aircraft leased two Boeing 8-200 ER aircraft from EgyptAir on a five-year contract. One joined the fleet in March 2014 and the other in May of the same year.
In less than a year, that is, in February 2015, after operating the flight, one of the engines broke down. Another engine was hired from Egypt Air to keep the plane running.
The rest of the engine was damaged in a year and a half. Another EgyptAir engine was hired to keep the plane running. The rented engine also broke down last December. The engine was later sent to another company in the United States for repair. However, no time has been specified. That is why both the leased company and the repair company must pay the airline.
The two contracted Boeings return before the deadline after heavy losses.
At the meeting, it was reported that Biman had obtained a revenue of Tk 185 million last July. His previous month’s income was around Rs 189 million Tk.
No personnel cut the Kovid-19 epidemic. However, the salary has been reduced a bit.
The meeting was informed that Biman had borrowed Rs 1,000 crore from the government to deal with the current situation, of which Rs 300 crore had been spent, the rest would not be spent.
