Barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh, Mayor of Dhaka South City Corporation, has ordered a campaign against battery-powered rickshaw vans in the Dhaka South City Corporation area through a mobile court starting October 5. He gave these instructions to interested persons at an official meeting on revenue collection today.

Regarding the operation, Russell Sabrin, DSCC’s Director of Property, said that the mayor has ordered an operation against rickshaws and illegal mechanized vans starting on October 5 to bring order to vehicles in the city of Dhaka.

“We will conduct operations against rickshaws and mechanical vehicles in different parts of the city and will continue until further notice,” said Russell Sabrin, director of properties, adding that two executive magistrates have already been appointed to carry out the operation.

Russell Sabrina further said that these illegal rickshaw vans driven in the operation will be dumped and fined. Accidents often happen on the road for these mechanical vehicles. The campaign will continue to protect the city’s inhabitants from accidents.

Previously, effective September 13, DSCC initiated the registration and renewal application process for rickshaws, vans, wheelbarrows, trailers and horse carts. At the inaugural function, DSCC Mayor Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh announced a ban on rickshaws and battery vans in the DSCC area. He warned that strict legal action would be taken against them if rickshaws or motorized vehicles were found on the road that day.

DSCC Mayor Sheikh Taposh said that at that time no non-mechanical vehicles other than registered unregistered vehicles will not be allowed to operate in Dhaka City. As a result, we will determine which path slow vehicles will use and which path fast vehicles will use. Through this registration process, slow moving vehicles will be included in the registration and in the rules.
