A video of the arrest and harassment of Rupali Bank manager Pabitra Kumar Kundu went viral after the university administration filed a complaint against the student league of the Dinajpur Haji Danesh University of Science and Technology (Habiprobi). A leader of the university’s BCL arrested the bank manager and posted the video live on Facebook seeking an explanation.
The video was posted live on Facebook by college students Morshedul Alam Rony and Riyadh Khan at 9:29 pm on Friday. The video has gone viral since the morning. It is known from the video that the manager had made this accusation as he was not allowed to transfer the Rupali Bank branch to TSC. Chhatra League leaders and activists have repeatedly asked on live video why allegations have been brought to the administration against Chhatra League leaders and activists. However, the bank manager could not give a good answer on the video.
It emerged that with the permission of the university administration, the banking authorities began moving the Rupali Bank branch from campus to TSC on Friday afternoon. At that time, the bank branch could not be moved there and the leaders and workers of the Chhatra League prevented the students in general from objecting. They discuss the matter with the management and ask them to relocate the branch. But since the bank is a financial institution, the bank manager complained to the university administration against the leaders and workers of the Chhatra League.
Meanwhile, after learning of the complaint, BCL leaders and activists entered the bank’s branch at around 9:30 pm and demanded an apology from the then transfer manager. At this time, the incident was made live on Facebook.
When contacted on Saturday afternoon, Riyad Khan, a leader of the university’s student league, who was present at the time of the incident, said ordinary students had objections to the transfer of the bank’s branch to TSC. However, the banking authorities were moving the branch to TSC with the Coronation opportunity. Knowing this, we have just asked not to transfer the bank branch to TSC for the time being and discuss the matter with management. But the manager has filed a written complaint against us with management. However, he later dropped the accusation. We have no interest here, we went to speak on behalf of ordinary students. And on Facebook Live we only went to know the accusations against us.
Rupali Bank CEO Abdullah Al Mahmud said Saturday afternoon: “We are holding a meeting on the issue.” In the evening, a meeting will be held with the Vice Chancellor of the University and GM Sir of the Bank to report on the efforts in this regard. However, it was not possible to know the decision immediately.
