Sherpur Upazila Nirbahi (UN) officer Liaquat Ali Sheikh confirmed the information, saying that market monitoring activities were taking place in different areas of upazila, including Sherua Battala Bazar, since noon to verify the price increase.

At that time there were reports of illegal sand mining from the Bengali River in the Baraitali Nabinagar and Naldangi areas of Khanpur Union. Later there were raids.

But since no one was found there, sand mining equipment was opened illegally. Then the mercenaries of the sand miners gathered and surrounded us. At the same time they went up.

They even got excited and attacked and wrecked my car. The two employees who were with me in the operation were severely beaten and injured when they tried to stop me. The attackers later fled after additional police arrived at the scene.

Sherpur Police Inspector (Investigation) SM Abul Kalam Azad admitted the truth of the incident and said: “I went to the scene with additional police officers as soon as I received the news.”

At the same time, all members of the operation, including the UN, were rescued. In addition, six people have been arrested for being involved in the incident. They are being investigated.
