This leadership from Befaq will serve as incumbent until the next council. Befaq regulates the curriculum and examination programs of some 13,000 Qawmi madrasas across the country. The number of Qawmi Madrasa students across the country exceeds 16 lakh.

Mufti Muhammad Waqqas told bdnews24.com: “The nomination was finalized by a secret opinion of the Majlis Amela. The interim election of BEFAC is run by an electoral commission made up of three vice-presidents. 158 members participated in the secret ballot.”
Through this, the next leadership of ‘Al-Hayatul Uliya Lil Jamiatil Qawmia Bangladesh’, the top regulatory body of Qawmi Madrasa comprising six regional boards of education, was also appointed.
Amir Shah Ahmad Shafi of Hefazat-e-Islam was the president of Befaq until his death. According to the constitution, the president of Befaq is ex officio and Jamiatil Qawmiya is the president. The newly appointed Allama Mahmudul Hasan Jamiatil Qawmiyar has also become the acting president.

Secretary General of BEFAC Mahfuzul Haque
Under the constitution, the new Senior Vice President Maulana Noor Hossain Qasemi will be the co-chair of Jamiatul Qaumiya.
He is the president of the Jamiat Ulamaye Islam and Naib Ameer section of Hefazat-e-Islam and the metropolitan president of Dhaka.
Maulana Mahfuzul Haque, the new acting secretary general of BEFAC, is the son of the late Shaykhul Hadis Maulana Azizul Haque, founding president of the Alliance of Islamic Unity. He is the Secretary General of the Khilafah Majlis and the Director of Mohammadpur Jamia Rahmania Arabia.
In the first session of the Majlis chaired by Maulana Abdul Quddus, prayers were offered for the forgiveness of Ahmad Shafi’s soul.
