Locals arrested a BCL leader named Sohel Gazi (20) in Kaliganj of Satkhira on charges of sexual harassment of a university student and handed him over to the police. The arrested BCL leader is the son of Emadul Gazi from Chaubaria village in Bharashimla, upazila union and general secretary of the BCL union. The victim’s father has filed a complaint with the police station (Case No. 04).
According to the family of the victim and the statement of the case, the student is a student of the XI class of Sarkari Khan Bahadur Ahsan Ullah College. Since the university was far away, he used to take classes at Nalta College. Sohail Gazi, general secretary of the Bharashimla Union Chhatra League, had long been harassing him on his way to and from the university. The college student informed her family members about the matter. The college student’s family then informed the family of Chhatra League leader Sohail Gazi. But Sohail’s family was reluctant to take action and continued to harass the college student.
At one point, on the night of October 2, BCL leader Sohail allegedly entered the student’s home and sexually harassed her. At that time, the neighbors arrested Sohail and informed the police. Upon receiving the news, Deputy Inspector of the Kaliganj Police Station, Anup Kumar Das, arrived at the scene, arrested Sohail and took him to the police station. Kaliganj Police Officer-in-Charge (CO) Delwar Hossain confirmed the incident.
Sohail Gazi’s father, Emadul Gazi, said his son had a love affair with the girl. He has been called and deceived.
