A 14-year-old girl was reportedly raped in the Dariapara area of ​​the town of Sylhet.

The girl’s mother filed a case against local youth Rakib Hossain Niju at the Kotwali Police Station on Friday night.

According to the case, Niju, a resident of Dariyapara, raped the girl on the roof of her house on September 29 and then drove her away.

The girl was subsequently admitted to the One-Stop Crisis Center at Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital on Friday night.

The defendant Niju is involved in local politics. He is known for being a supporter of Piyush Kanti, activist of the Chhatra League, and vice president of the Mahanagar Swechchhasebak League.

According to locals, Niju was arrested on August 6 last year in connection with an attack on an expat in the city’s Zindabazar. He was later released on bail on January 27.

At that time, along with others, Niju was also greeted with a garland by the Sylhet District and the Chhatra Metropolitan League. Vikram Kar Samrat, Councilor of the Sylhet Metropolis No. 2 District and a local leader of the Awami League was present at the time.
