Definite Taste / Odorless Corona Symptoms: Research

Researchers say that loss of taste and smell is a sure sign of coronavirus.

They say that the reliable indication of whether you are infected with coronavirus is the loss of your sense of taste and smell.

Studies by researchers in the UK have shown that tasteless odors are a more obvious symptom of Covid-19 than a cough or fever.

The University College London has carried out a study in about 800 patients who have neither taste nor smell. Antibodies to the coronavirus have been found in 80 percent of their bodies.

Forty percent of those with antibodies to the virus did not have any other covid symptoms such as fever or persistent cough.
This study was done in people who had mild symptoms.

Evidence that the coronavirus is a symptom of loss of taste and smell began to appear in April. And in mid-May, it was officially added to the list of coronary symptoms as a sure sign.

Current coronavirus guidelines state that if someone loses their taste or changes their sense of taste, they must isolate themselves and undergo a corona test.

Professor Rachel Butterham, lead author of the London study, says that people still see coughs and fever as the main symptoms of covid.
He contacted family doctors (GPs) in different parts of London from April 23 to May 14.

Through them, he got in touch with people who had spoken to doctors in the previous four weeks because the taste and smell had disappeared. They run the research work on them.

All of these participants were screened for corona antibodies. Four out of five of them were found to be antibody positive.
The study was conducted only on those who had mild symptoms and lost their sense of taste and smell.

Professor Butterham says the survey is important because anyone who notices a change in their sense of taste and smell should be isolated and undergo a corona test.

Scientists say that when the corona is infected, the sense of taste and smell disappears because the virus first attacks the cells within the nose, throat and tongue. This feeling is very different from the common cold fever.
