The Lebanese government has demanded the arrest of two Russian citizens in connection with a bomb blast in Beirut. However, questions have been raised as to whether they will eventually be arrested.

Seven years ago, a Moldovan-flagged freighter docked in the port of Beirut. Although she was not supposed to go to the port of Beirut. The ship was transporting 3,000 kilograms of ammonium nitrate from Georgia to a factory in Mozambique. However, on the way, the sailor was asked to change her route and head to the port of Beirut. The ship was told to pick up more cargo from there.

Upon arrival at the port, the ship was stranded due to various legal complications. Subsequently, the ammonium nitrate was stored in a warehouse in the port. The ship also crashed into port at one point. After a long stay in the warehouse, all of Beirut was reduced to rubble last August. More than 190 people died in it. 5,000 injured. Many were left homeless. An investigation committee was set up in the wake of the incident in which the owner and the sailor of the ship were requested to be arrested.

They are both Russian citizens. However, Beirut did not reveal anyone’s name. The matter was reported to Interpol maintaining confidentiality. Experts say it makes no sense to think that Interpol will arrest them for the charges against them.
