Beirut explosion
After the explosion in Beirut. The Lebanese government has asked Interpol for the arrest of two Russian citizens. However, experts are skeptical about whether they will eventually be arrested.
Seven years ago, a Moldovan-flagged freighter docked in the port of Beirut. Although the ship was not supposed to go to the port of Beirut. The ship was transporting 3,000 kilograms of ammonium nitrate from Georgia to an explosives factory in Mozambique. But in the middle, the owner of the boat allegedly told the sailor to change lanes. The sailor was ordered to go to the port of Beirut. The ship was told to pick up more cargo from there.
After arriving in the port of Beirut, the ship was embroiled in various legal complications. Due to this complication in 2014, the ammonium nitrate on board was stored in a warehouse in the port. The ship also crashed in port. It was never removed from the port of Beirut. For a long time there was ammonium nitrate in that warehouse. Which broke out last August. Virtually all of Beirut was reduced to rubble. 190 people died. 5,000 people were injured. Many were left homeless. Not only that, the Beirut government has resigned due to the explosion. Millions of dollars have been lost. Faced with this situation, an investigative committee headed by a judge was formed in Beirut. That investigative committee informed the police to arrest the owner and the sailor.
Coincidentally, both the owner of the ship and the sailor were Russians. However, the Beirut administration did not reveal anyone’s name. The matter has been reported to Interpol maintaining confidentiality. Both the owner of the boat and the sailor said they did not know about it yet. No one even contacted them. Experts say the allegations against the ship’s owner and sailor do not mean that Interpol will arrest them. There are certain methods to identify international criminals. They think that it will not apply in this case. – At Deutsche Welle
