Rape at MC College: Saifur and Rabiul testify in court

Saifur and Rabiul are testifying in court after taking the statement from Arjun Laskar, the defendant in the case of organized rape in the dormitory of the Murarichand College (MC) in Sylhet.

The Sylhet Metropolitan Additional Magistrates Court is taking testimony from the defendant Saifur Rahman.

Rabiul Islam, the third defendant in the case, has also been presented before the Auxiliary Metropolitan Investigative Court. Rabiul Islam’s statement will be taken in this court after his appearance at 8:20 pm.

Previously, Arjun Lashkar had given a confessional statement under section 164 in court.

The three defendants were taken to court this afternoon after a five-day preventive detention. The daily starSaid Amulya Kumar Chowdhury, deputy commissioner (prosecution) of the Sylhet Metropolitan Police.

After their arrest last Sunday, Assistant Metropolitan Magistrate Saifur Rahman granted them a five-day pretrial detention on Monday.

On September 25, around 8 pm, a young woman and her husband were forcibly taken to the university dormitory and raped by a group of young men. That same night, the husband of the rape victim presented a case to the Shah Paran Police Station in Sylhet, citing six persons and three unidentified persons as accomplices.
