The government will allocate 12,800 positions to technical and polytechnic colleges

The government has decided to hire around 12,600 positions in technical and polytechnic colleges in three fiscal years to expand career-oriented education in the country.

A total of 12,606 posts, including 1,081 cadre posts and 11,546 non-cadre posts in the technical education sector, have been dispatched to the Prime Minister’s Office, after completing all the necessary procedures to issue government orders.

According to sources, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina recently accepted the proposal.

The goal is to address the labor shortage in 113 government institutions under the Department of Technical Education and Madrasa: 49 polytechnic schools and 74 technical schools, authorities said.

Of the 1,071 permanent cadre positions, 20 are vice presidents (national salary scale, grade 5 in 2015), 189 are lead instructors (technician, grade 6), 56 are lead instructors (non-tech, grade 6). 510 instructors (technical, grade 9) and 305 instructors (non-technical, grade 9).

He said: “The government is creating this position to address the acute labor crisis in technical schools and universities currently run by a third of the staff. The quality of education and enrollment are expected to increase after hiring.

Dr. Omar Farooq said: “This initiative is part of the government’s priority to develop technical and vocational education to create qualified workforce for the current labor market at home and abroad.”

Experts said that the employment-oriented education initiative would have a positive impact on sending Bangladeshi workers abroad, as there is a high demand for skilled workers abroad.

Previously, the Ministry of Public Administrations approved a proposal to create 13,072 positions. Subsequently, the finance department agreed to create 12,608 positions in the revenue sector. The finance department has established the salary scale for the positions.
