A Thakurgaon housewife, who broke her arms and legs due to her husband’s rod, died at Rangpur Medical College Hospital after 13 days of treatment. Sadar OC Tanvirul Islam Police Station confirmed this. Parveen Akhter, 24, died Thursday night.
The deceased was identified as Shafiqul Islam from Malcha village under the union of Barbari from Baliadangi upazila from Parvin district. She is the wife of Nur Islam from the Pallibidyut area of the Rahimanpur Union of Sadar upazila.
On Friday, September 19, her husband Nur Islam beat her and broke all four of her limbs. Parveen’s father filed a case at Thakurgaon Police Station for the incident. Nur Islam was arrested in that case and is currently in jail.
According to the details of the case, Nur Islam locked his wife from inside the house, beat her with an iron bar and broke her arms and legs. Later, family members broke down the door, rescued Parveen and took her to hospital. When her condition deteriorated, Parveen was sent to Rangpur Medical College Hospital for better treatment. Parvin was six months pregnant.
His father, Shafiqul Islam, had filed a lawsuit against Nur Islam for attempted murder. That will now turn into a murder case, OC Tanvirul Islam said.
While receiving treatment at Sadar Hospital, Parveen told police that she married Nur Islam about eight months ago. Since marriage, Nur Islam used to come home drunk and beat her. On Thursday (September 18), Parveen visited her father’s home in the Malcha village of Baliadangi upazila. She returned from her father’s house on Friday afternoon (September 19). When he got home, he found her intoxicated. As soon as he got close to her, he started slapping Parveen. At one point, she closed the door of the house from the inside. She then hit Parveen with both hands and two legs with an iron bar at the house and broke it.
