Mizanur Rahman Chowdhury, the main defendant in the stabbing to death of a 10th-class student named Neela Roy in Savar, pleaded guilty in court. Dhaka’s Senior Judicial Magistrate Rajib Hasan recorded his statement on Thursday.
At the beginning of September 26, the court granted Mizan a seven-day preventive detention. Five days after the pre-trial detention, Mizan voluntarily made a confessional statement. The investigating officer on the case, Deputy Inspector (SI) of the Savar Police Station, Nirmal Chandra Ghosh, requested the confession record. This was confirmed by the Additional Prosecutor Anwarul Kabir Babul.
Mizan was arrested in the Rajfulbaria Colonel Bricks Field area of Savar around 10 p.m. on September 25. Mizanur’s father Abdur Rahman, mother Nazmun Nahar Siddique, and her accomplice Selim Pahlan are in jail after pre-trial detention in the case.
On the night of September 20, Mizanur Rahman blocked the path of Neela Roy and her brother Alok Roy as they returned from the hospital. Mizan then snatched Neela from her brother and stabbed her in a room in a nearby abandoned house. Later in the evening, she was taken to the Enam de Savar Medical College Hospital, where the doctor on duty declared her dead.
Neela’s father, Narayan Roy, filed a murder case against Mizanur Rahman, her father Abdur Rahman, and her mother Nazmun Nahar Siddique at the Savar police station on September 21.
