The same judge also granted a three-day pre-trial detention to Sabuj’s girlfriend, Bibi Fatema Jhumur (35), in the case brought before the Mirpur model police station.
Police brought them to the Dhaka Chief’s Metropolitan Magistrates Court on Thursday. The investigating officer requested his seven-day preventive detention for a proper investigation of the case. On the other hand, his lawyers requested bail seeking the cancellation of the defendant’s preventive detention.
After hearing from both parties, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Dhiman Chandra Mandal rejected the declaration of bail and granted five days of pre-trial detention to Sabuj and three days of pretrial detention to Jhumur.
The maid from Jhumur’s house brought the case to the Mirpur Model Police Station on Wednesday night alleging rape against BCL leader Sabuj.
According to the case, Sabuj took the girl home in a 60-foot area of the capital on September 28 and raped her.
After the case, the police raided several places in the capital at night and arrested the leaders of BCL, Sabuj and Jhumur. Jhumur has been named in the case as an accessory to the rape.
The girl was sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for examination.
