Padma Resort in the hands of demolition

Munshiganj: Munshiganj’s Padma Resort in Louhjong Upazila has been affected by several river erosions over the past two weeks. Ongoing demolition has moved closer to the complex.

Meanwhile, two cabins, a living room, a garden and part of the field collapsed in the Padma.

Thirteen years ago, in October 2008, the Padma Resort started its journey at a cost of Rs 1.5 crore. People from Dhaka and the surrounding districts have been coming here for a long time. Authorities claim that about 175 percent of 330 percent of the complex’s land has been washed away by the river. Of the 18 cabins, 14 are being relocated to safer areas.

There are plans to relocate the complex, located in the village of Uttar Dighali, starting Thursday (October 1) morning.

Padma Resort director Sadek Hossain Manna told banglanews that the char had disappeared into the riverbed in 1992-94. Then in 2001-2002, the char known as Bara Naopara woke up again. Then Padma Resort was established here on its own land in October 2006. For two weeks, Padma erosion occurred on the shore of the spa river. When the strong currents began to rise and break, the cabin moved closer to the house. About 175 percent of the resort’s land, built on about 330 percent of the land, goes to the river.

He said visitors were prohibited from coming for safety reasons to avoid accidents. There were 22 employees working at the complex. Two cabins, a living room, a garden and 40 percent of the field in the Padma have already collapsed. There are 14 of the 16 cabins that are being moved to safer locations. But there is a job crisis. Therefore, it is not possible to delete it today. Now there are plans to select a new location and move it to another location. I need to start over in a new place. But it is not clear when it will be possible.

Louhjong Upazila Executive Officer (UN) Humayun Kabir told banglanews that the char has eroded due to rising water in the Padmanadi. The Padma complex was the victim of this demolition. Various parts of the complex have been damaged. The goods are moved to a safe place. The complex is currently closed. The amount of land lost has yet to be determined.
