Chittagong: Farooq, who is accused of murdering a mother and son in the area of Ramzan Ali Serestadar’s house in Old Chandgaon below the Chandgaon police station, said he killed Gulnahar Begum out of anger and also killed his son Rifat after witnessing the murder.
Farooq gave the information in his initial confession after being arrested by members of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) on Thursday (October 1).
Farooq also told RAB that he had learned the murder technique by watching the Crime Patrol television series. To avoid arrest, he stopped using his mobile phone and hid in Khagrachhari, Chittagong and Dhaka.

A team led by Kazi Mohammad Tareq Aziz, Acting Commander of the RAB-7 Chandgaon Camp Company, arrested Farooq from the Pakkar Mata area below the Akbarshah Police Station in the morning.
A foreign pistol, two rounds of ammunition and a knife were recovered from Farooq, the RAB said.
Lieutenant Colonel Md. Mashiur Rahman Jewel said the RAB launched a shadow investigation immediately after the murder. Several raids were also carried out to catch the defendant Farooq. He was arrested in the Akbarshah Pakkar Mata area on Thursday morning.
Kazi Mohammad Tareq Aziz, company commander in charge of RAB-8’s Chandgaon camp, told banglanews that Farooq had known Gulnahar Begum for a long time. They used to argue about various topics. Gulnahar Begum used to scold Farooq. This made Farooq mad at him. Farooq killed Gulnahar Begum at one point due to a fight on the day of the incident. Upon seeing this incident, Gulnahar Begum’s son Rifat also died.
Kazi Mohammad Tareq Aziz said Farooq went into hiding to avoid being arrested immediately after the murder. They first went to the Chawkbazar area and dumped the bloodstained clothing down the drain. Later, he took a job in a garage in Khagrachari through a person who identified himself as helpless. After staying there for some time, he returned to Chittagong, visited various shrines, and went into hiding. Later he returned to Dhaka and got a job in a garage. Farooq recently returned to Chittagong.

Mayuri, daughter of the murdered Gulnahar Begum, came to the RAB-7 office after learning of the arrest of her mother and the murderer of her brother.
Mayuri told banglanews that she was grateful to the RAB for arresting the killer of my mother and brother. I want the murderer hanged.
On August 24, Gulnahar Begum (33) and her son Rifat (9) were murdered at their home in Ramzan Ali Serestadar’s house in Old Chandgaon. Gulnahar Begum lived with her daughters Mayuri and Rifat.
Mayuri suspected Farooq in the murder of Gulnahar Begum and Rifat. Mayuri said that Farooq was Gulnahar Begum’s ‘bhai boob’.
