Atiqul Islam, mayor of Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC), said all those involved were responsible for the unplanned hanging of cables in the capital. He said that the Bangladesh Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (BTRC), the Bangladesh Cable Operators Association (COAB), the National Broad Terrestrial Transmission Network (NTTN), the Bangladesh Internet Service Providers Association (ISPAB) are concerned about the hanging wire in the capital Dhaka. However, the BTRC is the regulatory body, but it did not oversee it that way.
The DNCC mayor said this while coming to supervise the electricity extraction operation hanging at different locations on Gulshan-2 in the capital on Thursday morning.
The DNCC is removing the cable hanging on both sides of the road from the Pakistani embassy in the Gulshan-2 area to the shooting club in Gulshan-1 throughout Thursday.
The mayor also commented that the representatives of the organizations engaged in a debate among themselves in front of him at the meeting related to his hanging.
Mayor Atiq added that everyone is responsible for this. Every time I have met with him, one company has blamed another. But everyone is responsible. They haven’t done any work under the NTTN license in 10 years. The BTRC is the regulatory body, but it did not oversee it in that way. But we came with all of them. This is the first time they are cut. But they are cutting it, the city corporation is not cutting it.
Atiqul Islam further said that all of Dhaka’s hanging cables will be removed within the next year. If NTTN doesn’t work on its own, we’ll connect it from the bottom of our drain from City Corporation. They’ll take them away with that pipe of yours. They will pay us a flat fee for this. The companies have accepted our proposal.
“We have asked them to cut the cable in such a way that it does not cause any inconvenience to customers,” he said. Many parents have told me that their children take classes on the Internet at home. For this, the companies took me seven days, so that the cables are not cut at the place of the curve or crossing. Now only the main road is cut off.
