Dhaka: Police arrested two people, including the vice president of the North Dhaka Metropolitan League, Sabuj Al Sahba, on rape charges.

On Wednesday night (September 30), a young leader of the Chhatra League filed a case against Sabuj at the Mirpur Model Police Station alleging rape.

Later in the evening, raids were carried out at various locations in the capital and BCL leader Sabuj and another named Bibi Fatema Jhumur (35) were arrested. Bibi Fatima has been mentioned in the case as an accessory to the rape.

According to the record, police said Sabuj took the girl to his home in a 60-foot area of ​​the capital on September 28 and raped her.

Mirpur Police Officer in Charge (CO) Mostajirur Rahman said the victim filed a case Wednesday night alleging rape. Later that night, Sabuj Al Sahba and Bibi Fatema were arrested.

Asked about the political identities of the detainees, the OC said that there were reports of rape against them, which is why they were detained. Political identity is not the key here. However, we are investigating the matter.

The victim has been sent to the Dhaka Medical College (DMC) teaching hospital for a medical examination. He said they were to be sent to court on Thursday.

On the night of September 25, a girlfriend was gang-raped while visiting MC College in Sylhet with her husband. The girlfriend was gang-raped while her husband was held in a private car and taken to the MC College dorm. All of those charged in the incident are leaders and activists from the university and the local Chhatra League. Another BCL leader was charged with rape shortly after the incident.
