The All India Muslim Personal Law Board will appeal to the country’s High Court against the verdict of the country’s CBI court in the highly disputed Babri Masjid demolition case.

A special IWC court in Lucknow acquitted 32 defendants, including veteran BJP leader LK Advani, in the case on Wednesday. They have been said to have been acquitted for lack of evidence.

In announcing his decision to go to High Court, Jafariab Jilani, a prominent lawyer who is a member of the board, said that witnesses described how the defendants were giving provocative speeches from the platform on the day of the Babri Masjid demolition. The defendants have been released despite having evidence against them in several sections.

He said an appeal would be filed in Superior Court against the verdict.

Congress, meanwhile, has criticized the ruling, saying it contradicts what the Supreme Court said in the Ram Janmabhoomi case and is unconstitutional.
