Bloody clashes between the two neighboring Azerbaijan and Armenia have raged since Sunday over the disputed territories of Nagorno-Karabakh. Azerbaijan has claimed that 2,300 Armenian soldiers were killed in the four-day conflict. Baku claims to have been the origin of the conflict after the attack on civilian areas and military installations in the country. This was reported by the Turkish media Anadolu.
The Azerbaijani Defense Ministry said in a statement that the soldiers were killed or wounded in a counterattack in the occupied territories. The statement added that 130 tanks and armored vehicles, more than 200 artillery and missile systems, around 25 air defense systems, six command and observation areas, five ammunition depots, around 50 anti-tank guns and 55 vehicles were destroyed in the war between September 28 and 30. Done.
The ministry said that an Armenian battalion operating under the Rapid Army Command deployed in the village of Tonshen in the city of Tartar had fled the area after suffering heavy casualties.
The fighting, which began on Sunday, has intensified. The UN Secretary General, Antonio Guterres, has called for a ceasefire between the two parties.
In the late 1970s, the war between Armenia and Azerbaijan broke out in the Karabakh region. The conflict culminated in the fall of the former Soviet Union in 1991. Until the ceasefire between the two parties was established in 1994, 30,000 people died in the fighting.
Although the Karabakh region is part of Azerbaijan, it is controlled by Armenian separatists under the auspices of the Armenian government. Basically, this is the beginning of a new conflict.
The two countries were embroiled in a war on September 26, 2020 due to a long dispute. Previously, in 2016, Azerbaijan and Armenia were involved in a major conflict in the Nagorno-Karabakh region.
