The Awami League has announced its party’s candidates in the by-elections of the constituencies of Dhaka-18 and Sirajganj-1.
Former Deputy Secretary General of the Dhaka Metropolitan North Awami League, Habib Hasan, has been nominated as Dhaka-17 and Tanvir Shakil Joy, son of the late member of the Awami League presidium, Mohammad Nasim, has been nominated as the party’s candidate. for the Sirajganj-1 constituency.

Previously, the Election Commission (EC) had announced the schedule for by-elections in the constituencies of Dhaka-18 and Sirajganj-1 on 12 November.
According to the schedule, those interested in participating in these two elections can send the nomination documents to the Return Officer until October 13.
The selection of the nomination works is October 15 and the last date to withdraw the candidacy is October 22.

EC Chief Secretary Alamgir said the Dhaka-17 and Sirajganj-1 seats were vacant due to the death. The constitution requires elections within the first 90 days of a vacancy. The EC did not try to be elected at this time because of Corona. Subsequently, the Electoral Commission extended the term for another 90 days. However, the EC did not have the opportunity to exceed these 90 days in the constitution.
The secretary said that the polls will be held in accordance with voting rules to prevent the spread of the coronavirus. All issues related to law and order will be considered in the two by-elections. There are some exceptions, that is, if the elections had been held earlier in Dhaka, all traffic would have stopped. This time it won’t be done. The commission will issue a circular on which vehicles will circulate and which ones will not. At the same time, the district office will remain open. However, the concerned authorities will give voters time to cast their votes.
