The administration can do whatever it wants!

Sylhet: Husband tied up and gang raped his wife. This ugly incident has caused a hemorrhage in the hearts of all sectors.

No one could accept this incident. Similarly, the civil or costume administration came under pressure from the people for the incident.

Public outrage at the bride’s humiliation in front of her husband also shocked the administration. That is why the incident shows that all the horrible criminals involved in the gang rape were arrested in a very short time.

The perpetrators disguised themselves to hide. Many tried to flee India by cutting their hair, beards and mustaches. But the world could not bear the terrible cry of disgrace from the women that day!

Such crimes have rocked even the highest levels of the state. The administration has also been able to detain all the accused with a sense of responsibility.

The conscious neighborhoods think that nothing would have been possible without the pressure of the higher neighborhoods or the masses. The Shahparan Police Station, where the incident took place, was unable to arrest a single accused. Even then, the administration can be thanked for arresting the defendants in this case.

In this regard, Faruk Mahmud, coordinator of Citizen for Good Governance (SNAK) Sylhet, told banglanews that there have been many incidents in Tilagarh and MC College in recent days. Militant leader Sheikh Abdur Rahman has also been arrested from here. In many cases, I have seen the administration remain silent. However, this incident came under pressure from the people starting from the highest steps. That is why the administration has spontaneously fulfilled its responsibilities. Especially the role of the police administration should always be like this. Furthermore, the lawyers did not appear in court on behalf of the accused. Even after delivering the charge sheet for the case, they will be in favor of justice this way, hopefully.

Despite the incident last Friday (September 25), police arrested eight people, including six defendants in the case, in just five days. Last Tuesday (September 29) evening, the second defendant in the case, Tarekul Islam Tarek (26), was arrested by an RAB-9 team from Dirai upazila from Sunamganj.

Mahfuzur Rahman Mashum, the sixth defendant in the case, was arrested by the Kanaighat Police Station and the District Detective Police in a joint operation from the home of a Haripur relative in Jaintapur Upazila de Sylhet at around 11pm Monday (September 26).

RAB-9 members arrested Rajan and his accomplice Ainul from the Kachuabhar Nayatila area in Fenjuganj upazila around 1 am on Sunday (September 28).

Mahbubur Rahman Rony, the third defendant in the case, was arrested in Shayestaganj in Habiganj in a separate operation by the RAB. The Habiganj District Police arrested Rabiul from Nabiganj upazila on the same day.

In addition, Chhatak police arrested Saifur Rahman, the main defendant in the case, as he attempted to escape from Chhatak in Sunamganj to India in disguise on Sunday morning. On the same day, in a separate operation, the city detective police arrested Arjun Lashkar from Madhabpur.

Meanwhile, six defendants Saifur, Arjun, Rabiul, Mahbubur Rahman Rony, Rajan and their accomplice Ainul were placed in preventive detention for five days on Monday.

Last Friday (September 25), six BCL leaders and activists allegedly gang-raped a woman while her husband was detained in the MC College dormitory. Upon receiving the news, police rescued the couple from the bedroom at around 10:30 pm. The raped woman was later admitted to the OCC Center of the Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital.

According to police and local sources, the South Surma newlyweds took a private car to MC College on Friday afternoon. In the afternoon, six MC College BCL leaders and activists grabbed the husbands and took them to the dormitory and beat them first. He later gang-raped his wife while holding her husband captive. Each of the BCL leaders lives in the dormitory. They are followers of the leader of the Awami League, Advocate Ranjit Sarkar Group, based in Tilagarh.

The rapist’s husband presented the case at the Shahparán police station on Saturday morning, naming six people and charging two or three others.

Police also recovered weapons from Saifur’s room after the incident. Deputy Inspector (SI) Milton Sarkar from Shahparan Police Station presented another separate case in this regard. He filed a case against Chhatra League cadre Saifur Rahman.
