Corona health scandal

During the coronal period, the target of the Tk 900 million looting in the healthcare sector was the president of JMI Hospital Require Manufacturing Limited. Abdur Razzak. Without bidding, the then director of the Central Pharmacy (CMSD) in the Corona disaster had given JMI a job worth Rs 900 crore in a single capacity. CMSD did not invite any bids before purchasing the N-95 mask. The price of the product has not even been determined. This information has emerged in the investigation of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has allowed the president of the JMI group, Abdur Razzak, who was arrested in a case of supplying poor health equipment, including masks and PPE, to remain in custody for five days for questioning. Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge KM Imrul Kayesh approved the order after hearing the custody request on Tuesday. The commission’s deputy director, Nurul Huda, presented the case against seven people, including Razzak, at the ACC’s integrated district office in Dhaka-1 on Tuesday morning. Then, at noon, the director of the Mir commission. A team led by Zainul Abedin Shibli arrested Abdur Razzak from the Subbagicha area. On June 15, the ACC formed a four-member investigation team led by ACC official Zainul Abedin Shibli to investigate allegations of corruption in the purchase of N-95 masks and PPE and other protective equipment amid the outbreak of the corona virus. The ACC investigation team questioned the seven defendants and several others about the allegations. The case was shelved after a three-month investigation. Many doctors and nurses died from the corona virus using low-quality masks provided by the organization of a Jamaat leader. The fake ‘N-95’ mask was provided to endanger the current government. At that time there was an uproar about it. There was a storm of criticism across the country. Ittefaq’s illustrated report was published at that time. In this context, the ACC entered the search field.

If there is corruption in the health sector, only limestone stops. But the Godfathers were out of reach. Iqbal Mahmood, chairman of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), told Ittefaq that all those named in the investigation would be arrested. I will not leave anyone. ACC (Public Relations) Director Pranab Kumar Bhattacharya said ACC will continue its campaign against corruption in the health sector.

No US-made N-95 products made it into the country during the Corona disaster. But on the occasion of the epidemic, fake masks were made and carried in the N-95 packages. The local company called JMI Syringes and Medical Devices ran this business without regard to any kind of regulation. They produced the mask in their own factory in Gazaria, Munshiganj and delivered it to the central pharmacy with the N-95 ball. From there, health protection materials, including these masks, are supplied to the Sadar District Hospital and Upazila Health Complex through the Department of Health, the Ministry, all the Hospitals of the Medical College, the Civil Surgeons. The first protest after the supply of these fake masks came from the General Hospital of Mugda. A hospital director questioned the quality of the fake N-95 mask and filed a written complaint with the Ministry of Health. But the Ministry of Health was not aware of these issues. When the news about this was published in various media, CMSD protested on behalf of the supplier company. Even those who would criticize him were threatened with lawsuits under the ICT Law.
