The government has set the price for rice. The price of a bag of good quality Miniket rice weighing 50 kg has been set at 2,575 Tk and medium quality rice at 2,250 Tk. In other words, the price of Miniket rice per kg will be Rs 51 50 paise and medium quality rice will be Rs 45.

Food Minister Sadhan Chandra Majumder set the price of rice after a meeting with rice mill owners and rice traders at the food building on Tuesday. This information has been made known by that meeting source.

However, the price of rice will be applied to the millgate, the Food Ministry said in a press release.

The food minister said that if rice traders do not sell rice at this price, fine rice will be imported in the next 10 days.

Of course, he himself owns a rice mill in the family.

In a meeting with the owners of the rice mill a few days ago, Sadhan Chandra said that the price of rice should be the same as 15 days ago. The owners of the rice mill gave this instruction.

But after speaking with the rice mill owners again, he deviated from that decision and set the price for the rice.

At the meeting, the rice traders informed the Food Minister that they had bought a 50 kg bag of Miniket rice from the rice mills for Tk 2,555 15 days ago.

The Food Minister said that a class of unscrupulous rice mill owners had accumulated rice and rice illegally. Because of this, the rice market has become unstable. My own constituency, Naogaon, has thousands of tons of rice in stock.

He added that farmers do not have even 2% rice. I found about 50 mills by secret survey. These mills have a minimum stock of 200 tons and a maximum of 3000 tons of rice. There are even 500 tons of rice in stock. Shopkeepers have also stored rice and rice.
